Zensor's comments:
Warm up assignment for Apoptygma Berzerk and our first go at Rockefeller Music Hall.
Thanks to our regular and extra crew, and the good conduct all in all, we felt quite at home before climbing upstage, and once there, even more so, scanning the audience. This time, the monitors gave us all we wanted. Crisp, adequate sound to top the massive kickback from the hall. (Rumour has it Patrick was seen smiling for a second during Sick Puppy.)
This led to some hybris and over-enthusiastic glutturals from the vocal departement, succesfully choked on Strict - But we were all a bit too eager to tear the place down to embody the space possible within the set. The popish parts fuzzed up and the melodic parts of Intimat and Residuum a.o. didn't come through too well. Soundwise, it didn't much help that the guitar rack caved in at the onset of Nothing, giving Mads a hell of a job to balance it all.
Despite our crew's involvement in the wiring of lights and scene effects, they were all off limits. Even changing colours on the cans was prohibited, and so we had little or nothing to match the progression of the set. This might have been a necessary restraint - to avoid the need for a toast-master or lounge DJ to cool off the audience before Apoptygma could start. As it turned out, spirits were pretty much where they should be when we left stage.
All in all a better night than most, concluded with the now even clearer (and rather horrifying) image of what it would be like to unleash the machinery in full.
