Zensor's comments:
So – you got all the lights you need, but nothing to control them with. You have all the monitors you need, but not enough power to drive them. Our synch-mixer just couldn't be convinced to deliver at such a diet, and the rest of the gear made loud, amusing pops when buttoned. Great. And we were so relaxed allready. To make it a short lived misery, we go on stage first, and reel off a slighty amputated performance, with the rare additions of booze and smokes on stage. Just another night at the assembly line, hungry and pissed (off).
The electricity issues failed to do much damage during the gig, besides the extra noise and impaired hearing. As with the previous venues, recording the performance seemed a waste of tape. Just after Hospital, our laptop blue-screened, but it had served its part and could be excused. Nonetheless, it was confirmed unreliable, and adjustments will be made to stabilize the software running parts of the rig. (Such as, preferably, getting rid of them alltogether.) Mr. Alke's drum style would require a different backline vs. monitor configuration than what we normally use, and we found that our keyboards and -stands really can't expect the gentle treatment they would need if they were not to break without our stage presence being compromized. Please beware associated shrapnel at future gigs.
Thanks to the lads who hurt themselves slamming in front. Just the right kind of energy we can make use of to release that explosive part of carelessness. We could've made use of a lot more of the sort, though. The audience we met in Iceland just has another way of showing immersion, being even more reserved than our home crowd. Still, the response after the gigs was on the more expressive side, and of the enthusiastic sort. Manning the merch-boot on our own was never so cozy.
Our tour-mates from Subsonic Mind and Brain Police also delivered nice work this night, and we were pleased, for the first time, to be playing in Iceland, in the sense that we would relax and get pissed before loading into the cab to the airport. Bad idea, of course, but we've never returned home with this much equipment still present - and still functioning. Special thanks to Mads for getting us through check in, security and customs without fuzz. Thanks also to our marvellous hosts and all who cared to drop by for the “Volvo-riding black metal band” - according to radio interviews. All in all the best and the worst this far down the road.
